A Safe & Memorable Beekeeping Experience
Your family will "step inside" a real working beehive and discover how honeybees live, work and communicate.
Sessions are small, relaxed and guided step-by-step so both parents and children feel comfortable around the bees.
Led by an experienced beekeeper and DBS-checked firefighter, the experience includes full protective suits and a clear safety briefing before approaching the hive, ensuring a calm and enjoyable environment for everyone. The experience is fully covered by public liability insurance and takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Galvin Green Man Restaurant, just outside Chelmsford.

The experience begins at the venue, continues with a guided walk to the apiary, and finishes back at the Galvin Green Man with honey tasting and Q&A.

Is it safe for children?
Yes. Children and parents wear full protective beekeeping suits, and the session is guided step-by-step to ensure everyone feels comfortable around the hive.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If weather conditions are unsafe for opening the hive, sessions may be rescheduled to another available date.

Will we get stung?
Bee stings are uncommon during calm, guided sessions, especially when wearing protective suits. However, because bees are live animals, a sting is always a small possibility.
What should we wear?
Please wear closed shoes such as trainers or boots. All protective suits and gloves are provided.
Can siblings join?
At the moment, each session is designed for 1 parent and 1 child to keep the experience calm, safe and fully guided. We may introduce small group options in the future, but currently each booking is limited to one parent-child pair.
Do we need any experience?
No experience is needed. The session is designed for beginners and families who want to learn about bees in a safe and engaging way.
What is the minimum age?
The experience is designed for all children accompanied by a parent.
How long does the experience last?
The session lasts approximately 2 hours, including safety briefing, hive inspection and time for questions.
